The basics for learning online

Most learning with Te Kura happens online. Ākonga use their student number to sign in, access learning, communicate with kaiako and kaimanaaki, and use Microsoft 365 tools for their mahi.

If ākonga are not sure who their kaiako or kaimanaaki is, call 0800 65 99 88 and the team can help point them in the right direction.

What ākonga need

Six things to check

Each item below has a clear next step if ākonga do not have it, cannot access it, or are not sure what to do next.

Student number

For logging in

Ākonga need their Te Kura student number to sign in and access their student account.

Do not know it? Contact your kaiako or kaimanaaki. If you are not sure who to contact, call 0800 65 99 88.

My Te Kura Account

Your learning access

Use My Te Kura Account to access learning, check messages, see course information, and keep mahi moving.

Can not access it? Contact your kaiako or kaimanaaki. If you do not know who that is, call 0800 65 99 88.

Laptop or device

If access is a barrier

Ākonga need a device that can access their learning online. Te Kura may be able to help if a laptop is not available.

Do not have one? You may be eligible if you or your whānau have a WINZ client number or Community Services Card.
LAC Tool

Internet access

Reliable connection

Regular internet access helps ākonga check learning, submit mahi, and stay connected with kaiako and kaimanaaki.

No reliable internet? You may be eligible for connectivity assistance through Te Kura. Ask your kaimanaaki or use the LAC tool.

Student ID card

For proof of student status

This is different from a student number. A student ID card is a physical card that can be used to show student status when needed.

Need a card? Full-time secondary, young adult, and adult ākonga can apply online with a suitable photo.

Laptop and internet support

Do not wait if access is getting in the way

Te Kura may be able to support eligible ākonga with a laptop and internet subsidy. This is available for ākonga whose parent or caregiver, or the ākonga themselves, has a WINZ client number or Community Services Card.

If you are not sure where to start, ask your kaimanaaki. If you do not know how to contact them, call 0800 65 99 88.

Need help getting started?

Ask the right person early

If ākonga are unsure what subjects they have, where to begin, or what mahi to complete first, they do not need to work it out alone.

Subject or coursework question

Contact your kaiako for course instructions, feedback, assessments, and subject-specific mahi.

Where do I start?

Contact your kaimanaaki for help with your plan, routines, engagement, and knowing what to focus on first.

Do not know who to contact?

Call 0800 65 99 88. This is the best starting point if you are unsure how to reach your kaiako or kaimanaaki.
